AI Will Change Business and Productivity Forever
By Kevin Gardner
The field of Artificial Intelligence was created in 1956, but it took many years before any significant developments were made. It's only in recent years that the technology has started to become a reality and has been implemented in many applications from social media to medicine. Machine learning and AI are commonplace in places like businesses. Some of the applications are fairly simple and most users don't even notice the fact that AI is being used, some of the examples of AI use the most cutting-edge technology to create breathtaking results. With AI becoming more advanced and machines learning faster in more complex ways, implementing the technology is important for businesses looking to stay competitive.
AI wasn't created to replace humans' capabilities, instead, it is being used to support the efforts that humans are making. AI isn't very good at performing everyday, real-world tasks, but it's fantastic at interpreting data much faster than humans are capable of doing. After analyzing the data, the AI can give the user with different options to complete a task according to the data it was given. This can help reduce risk and increase benefits with each set of data and actions it was given to analyze.
Amir Husain, the CEO and founder of SparkCognition, believes AI is a new type of software that will change the field dramatically. With AI's ability to act in new situations that the user didn't predict and make its own decisions, it aids in decision making in ways traditional software can't compete with. These abilities make AI valuable in a lot of businesses. From helping with everyday tasks like navigation to monitoring complex machines and coming up with a maintenance plan, AI can be implemented in amazing ways.
AI in the future
It's difficult to predict exactly what AI will be able to do in the future or how it will be implemented into humans' daily lives, but it will keep getting more advanced. Eventually, AI's hardships with "common sense" will be overcome and robots with AI could become every day and helpful parts of life. Within the next decade, robots are predicted to be able to complete menial tasks like cleaning and pet care. In addition, many like Dr. Nathan Wilson believe that AI will soon revolutionize tasks like driving in the very near future.
Some more interesting applications involve aesthetic applications like wallpaper and music systems that will cater to the people in the room and their tastes. Soon, AI won't just be on a screen, it will be part of the physical world. Someone's entire experience could be designed by AI that can be connected to boardrooms and buildings around the world. People will be able to interact with their environment, possibly utilizing other cutting-edge technology like augmented reality.
AI for the worker
People still can't decide if robots and AI will make humans obsolete, but it will definitely change the face of the workforce. Millions of jobs will be automated and just one heavily affected is the retail industry. In a simple retail industry overview, it's easy to find several things that could be automated. From cashiers, stockers, and inventory specialists will eventually be out of a job, but many people don't consider the white-collar positions that could be replaced with an algorithm. Business analysts and lawyers might soon find themselves out of jobs.
Fortunately, it's also predicted that AI will also create jobs during the transition as well as create wealth, eventually. The change will be gradual, it might just be harder for someone to find another job in the same position the next time someone has to apply.
Once these jobs are gone and the wealth produced by AI is distributed in an equitable way, what will productivity mean to society? What is the value that humans bring to society? New businesses and entire industries will be created while others will fade into obscurity and AI isn't going to wait.
